As the University looks for the "student perspective" on campus
issues it turns to UBListens , UB’s Institutional Research
Program designed to capture the “voice” of all members
of the UB community, including faculty, staff, and students, via
surveys and focus groups. Since UBListens was launched in
2006, we have been involved in conducting a variety of standard and
locally-developed surveys, assisting faculty and staff with survey
creation, design, and administration, and sharing results with the
university community.
One of OIAs strongest and most productive collaborations has
been with the Division of Student Affairs. In addition to
collaborating on the design and administration of student surveys,
these two offices coordinated the UB Advocates Program (2006-2010),
a standing panel of engaged students who met regularly to discuss
current affairs at the University and share their “student
voice” with University administrators. Perhaps the most
visible impact of UB Advocates was the choice of redesign options
on order to convert open, static campus spaces into dynamic
learning spaces with furniture and technology appropriate for
student learning and collaboration outside of the traditional
classroom setting.
Help with conducting a survey
If you are interested in conducting a survey or focus group to
gather opinions from University students, faculty or staff, let us
know! Contact us at ublistens@buffalo.edu
. We can help with survey and focus group design, administration,
and analysis. Many of our surveys are administrated using Baseline from
Campuslabs, a hosted survey platform.
Survey Clearinghouse
In addition, we are pleased to offer the newly created Survey
Clearinghouse for survey activity at the University. With
this clearinghouse, not only can members of the university
community see what surveys are happening at UB and when, but
faculty, staff, and students can register their surveys, allowing
them to appear on the calendar. This clearinghouse
facilitates the survey scheduling process and encourages
collaboration on survey efforts, potentially reducing “survey
fatigue.”
Access to the Survey Clearinghouse is available to all UB
faculty and staff. Simply login using your UBIT username prefixed
with 'ad\' ('ad\'+[UBIT username] and password) .
